Yaskawa Motors is a proven motor industry leader and on the forefront of many exciting innovations in the variable frequency drive arena.  One example of the Yaskawa motor's innovation is their over voltage suppression technique which addresses surplus energy in variable frequency drives with reciprocating loads.

 

To further expound on the over voltage suppression technique, during certain portions of operation a motor can accelerate beyond what is the norm for a variable frequency drive.  The variable frequency drive motor is designed to absorb the additional energy utilizing braking units that are also known as transistor units or braking resistors.  The units store the additional energy and are sized to match their duty cycle.  With large amounts of additional energy, multiple units may be employed in a master slave scenario.  This method has been an industry standard but has a few drawbacks which include additional cost and space requirements.

 

Always on the forefront of new innovations, Yaskawa Motors has developed a way to address this power surplus situation with their over voltage suppression technique.  This Yaskawa motor technique takes the load energy produced during motoring mode and uses the energy during the load cycle in the generating portion.  This enables greater control over the motor so that it does not act as a generator.
